Every Fall a new class of college student start off on the next steps of adult life. Bright young minds on a quest for knowledge and enlightenment… Or, cheap hook-ups and keg stands… Either way this first year of college brings forth a massive amount of change – both good and bad. The most well-known change is the dreaded “Freshman 15”. This common rapid weight gain is one of legend and is almost impossible to avoid. Too many food choices, lack of sleep and alcohol will have you going from a 6-pack to a keg by thanksgiving.
There’s really no reason to gain this “Freshman 15” on your Buddha belly and thunder thighs. Below are some reasons why College Freshman can pack on that 15 lbs. in pure impressive muscle. Making you stand out while the other freshman start shopping for bigger pants with elastic waistbands.
- Timing is everything
After college most kids will join us all in the ranks of the 8-5 working world. Which, limits us to either 5:30 a.m. gym sessions or the crowded 6:00 p.m. mess after a long day. Studies show that the afternoon is the best training time. Your body is awake, energized and ready to push through to a new level. Plus, it’ll leave you focused and energized to tackle homework, community service or that cute girl down the hall in your dorm 😉 . Great Nutrition is only a chow hall away.
These days college offers a huge variety of healthy choices. Stick with lean cuts of meat, salads, eggs and fresh veggies to feed those muscles. Just try and pretend there isn’t a giant display of cookies, desserts, an unlimited pasta bar or fresh made pizza.- Sleep for Growth
High school hours are a thing of the past. Fitness minded students schedule their classes later in the day so they can sleep.During sleep your body releases essential hormones, such as growth hormone and testosterone. So, you can’t build muscle and recover without rest. Plus, your food choices and training suffer when fatigued and tired.
- Partner Up
It doesn’t have to be a “bromance” but it’s pretty easy to find like-minded people on a campus of thousands. A good training partner helps fight that freshman 15 by keeping you committed to your workouts and maybe even slapping the chocolate fudge brownies out of your hand when your willpower is lacking. - You’re young
If you want to pack on the Freshman 15 lbs. of Muscle, the time is NOW. Most students are between 18 and 22 making it the perfect time for muscle growth. You’ve most likely stopped growing and now your body is ready for mass. Testosterone and energy levels are high, your schedule is flexible and you have access to training facilities and school provided nutrition. Take advantage of this time and try and forget that in four short years you’ll probably be stuck in a cubicle shuffling TPS reports.
